Sarasota Scuba Club, Inc.
P.O. Box 504, Sarasota, FL 34230-0504

Purpose: Sarasota Scuba Club is here to promote SCUBA diving, provide underwater educational programs and recreational activities. We hold a monthly meeting with marine-related programs, arrange dive trips, sponsor water-related social activities and have social gatherings for the whole family. We raise money to support our club expenses and to make donations to groups such as DAN (Divers Alert Network), Mote Marine and other community projects.
History: During 1964, a group of divers in Venice formed the Venice Grouper Snoopers. In October 1965, the name was changed to the Venice SCUBA Diving Club. The Club became incorporated as a nonprofit organization on October 17, 1967. During the early years, the meetings were held in the member’ homes in both Sarasota and Venice. In the late 1970’s, as the membership expanded to include divers from Manatee county, the meetings were moved to the FOP Hall in Sarasota. In 1995, the name was changed to the Sarasota SCUBA Club, Inc
Meetings: Our meetings are held the first Thursday of the month at 7:30pm at the Sahib Shriners Temple located at 600 North Beneva Road Sarasota, Florida 34232, one block north of Beneva and Fruitville. Come early and meet your dive buddies for dinner at the Sahib Shriner's Buffet or for a drink in their full bar. All members are encouraged to become involved and help on a committee. Our committees are Dive, Social, Membership, Newsletter, Programs, Community Service Advertising and Merchandise. Please contact any current Board member or Committee chairperson for information on how to get involved.
Membership: Active membership is open to certified divers. A non-diving spouse, significant other and children are considered social members. They are welcome to participate in all social events and to accompany a member diver on dive trips. To become a member, you must complete a membership application, submit a copy of your certification card, sign a waiver and pay dues. Acceptance is based on a vote by the Board. Membership dues are $35.00 for a single and $50.00 for a family, and are due the first of each year. As a new member, your dues will be pro-rated according to which quarter of the year you join: (See our Membership Policies.)

As a member you will meet other divers who share your interest in the sport and the marine environment. There is the opportunity to find a “buddy” for sea or land, and to learn about all aspects of diving. Since our activities include the family, your non-diving spouse or significant other need no longer feel left out when you talk about your SCUBA friends. Also, you will receive our monthly newsletter, a membership packet and, best of all, have fun!! Dive With Us
